Yelp Pollo Party at Poyoteca

Upon arriving and within minutes of sitting down in my seat, I was greeted with the beverages! I started with a glass of red wine and then the party really began when they brought out the pisco sours! I had never heard of pisco sour before, but after the first sip, I was on board with it. I’m a huge fan of whiskey sours, so this was right up my alley. It had a nice tang from the lime, but refreshing airiness from the egg white foam (I know, you’re thinking..egg white foam?! I was thinking it too, but it works, trust me.). After mingling for a bit, we learned about the origin of Poyoteca. If you’re from Baltimore and you’re familiar with Chicken Rico, they are the same company, just rebranded with a new fresh look, but same amazing chicken! I had never been to Chicken Rico prior, but had heard nothing but good things. I loved learning about Fernando’s family and how his mother came from Peru and started this restaurant and to see all that it has come to be! Think of Poyoteca like a mix between Chipotle and Boston Market.

We were each able to order an individual meal off their menu for the night. I ordered the quarter dark chicken with yucca fries and brussel sprouts. I was going to be healthy and order the quarter white, but decided to enjoy myself a bit and get the juicier dark meat. After placing my order, I headed over to their sauce bar! What a concept! I love how you are able to try all the sauces they offer. They have their original Aji Amarillo (yellow sauce), picante jalapeno (green sauce), and their newest addition, the rocoto loco (orange sauce). The way they described it, they said the yellow is mild, the green is spicy, and the orange is somewhere in the middle of the two. The yellow and orange were my top two contenders, the green really packed a kick so I steered clear of that!

After visiting the sauce bar, it was time for me to dig in! I could not wait to eat this plate, it looked amazing! The chicken was so moist, the yucca fries crispy, and the veggies perfectly roasted. I am a HUGE fan of the yucca fries. Seriously, just give me an entire plate of those and I will be content. The brussels were also amazing, really great flavor. But real talk, all the sides looked phenomenal! I will definitely be back to try the mac and cheese, the arroz chaufa, mashed potatoes, and the ensalada rusa. Honestly, the list could go on, everything on the menu looked so delicious. Huge thank you to Yelp Baltimore for hosting/organizing and Poyoteca for having us, I had an amazing time and can’t wait to return with some friends!

Thank you Yelp Baltimore and Poyoteca for an amazing night!
