2nd Annual Bites at BWI

This post is kind of overdue as I went to this event a month ago (oops), but I am finally getting around to posting about it on here! I was able to attend to the 2nd annual Bites at BWI event where several other of my foodie friends and I were able to taste and see some of the amazing vendors BWI has to offer! Scroll to see all the delicious things you could eat next time you’re waiting for your flight!

First, we started off with some horchata! According to Wikipedia…, it defines horchata as “a name given to various plant milk beverages of similar taste and appearance”. I had never had horchata prior to this and I would say it tastes like cinnamon toast crunch!

Next, we headed off to Nalley Fresh! Y’all, I discovered Nalley when I went off to college and I became hooked. I would eat there so often. My go to was always a build your own salad that I loaded up. I am such a fan of them and was super excited to be able to try some items I normally wouldn’t have otherwise. This bowl is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend you try it next time you’re at Nalley because it’s definitely my new fave. It starts with some rice, then it’s topped with chicken, cajun salad, pumpkin seeds, and broth! Yes, broth! This bowl is so hearty and filling. Highly recommend, especially on a cold day!

Next, we visited Gachi Sushi! You already know I’m obsessed with sushi, so naturally, this was one of my favorite stops. The detail they put into each roll is truly amazing, I mean look how beautiful this presentation is! In case you aren’t convinced yet, I added in one more photo below of the spread they made for us!

Sushi game is strong at this place! I know, you’re thinking airport sushi…eh can’t be fresh, but trust me y’all, this is the real deal. Their ingredients are incredibly fresh and their rolls are delicious! They are a husband and wife duo, which really just pulls at your heartstrings a little doesn’t it? They are quite the team and such nice people. I highly recommend checking them out next time you’re at BWI because I know I will be! I also recommend trying the triple delight roll, it was delicious!

Next, we’re at La Carnita! They were the ones that provided the horchata in the beginning, so shout out to them for providing my first horchata experience! It continues though because I was able to try one of their crispy cotija tacos! Let me tell you how difficult it is to find cotija cheese because I scoured four different grocery stores when I was trying to make street corn and could not for the life of me find this dang cheese! And here they are serving me an entire stick of it on my taco! The taco was delicious — corn tortilla’s are my absolutely favorite and it really complimented the cheese well and the pickled carrots added a nice tang!

Next, Miss Shirley’s! If you haven’t been to a Miss Shirley’s location, you’re 100% missing out. Another amazing spot I discovered while in college. I would frequent the Roland Park location with my gals for brunch! Well, now you have no excuse not to check them out because they’re coming to BWI this summer! They’re bringing some amazing dishes like their chesapeake deviled eggs that were out of this world!

Also, would you look at this up close shot of their crawfish gumbo with grits?! Can you believe I shot this photo on my iPhone 8+?! Tell me that doesn’t make your mouth water because I’m literally drooling thinking about it.

Next, Flying Dog! They were seriously such nice people at this stall especially the chef. I was able to try their crab cakes and y’all, they don’t play around. Their crab cake was amazing, highly recommend! I would go there just for that. Hence why they won best Maryland dish of the night! I loved learning about how they locally source all of their ingredients which is really refreshing to hear and something that always wins points in my book!

Next, I stopped by Azure for some shrimp bites! These were so refreshing and such a delectable bite! Sky Azure is actually located on the observation gallery where the event was located. They offer tapas/small plates and a bar with a great view! Definitely will check them out next time for drink!

Next, I made pit stop at Silver Diner to try their avocado toast and chicken piccata (not pictured). Fun fact: I actually used to work at this very Silver Diner for a little bit during college and I always wanted to meet Chef Ype, but never had the opportunity. Well, tonight I was able to and it felt like my life had come full circle! Okay okay, I know enough about my personal life and more about the food! The chicken piccata was great as usual, Silver Diner introduced me to farro and if you’ve never had it, I would compare it to a mesh between barely and rice (super delicious). The avocado toast though….something I never order out because I feel like I can make it at home, but will definitely begin to because it was absolutely delicious. The avocado was so fresh, the bread was so crispy, and it had amazing flavor. Silver Diner also sources locally for many of their ingredients as well which is why I think their food is so fresh!

Finally, I ended the night with a chocolate covered strawberry from Berries by Quicha! These are the best chocolate covered strawberries I’ve ever had! I actually drive by her shop every day for work and never knew! I would highly recommend getting these for an party/gathering/event you may have because they’re sure to be a crowd favorite!

If you made it to the end, cheers and thank you for taking the time to read this length, long overdue post! I truly had an amazing time networking, eating delicious food, and getting to know more about BWI. Huge thank you to DMV Foodie Crew for organizing and BWI for hosting and having me!
